Cyber-shot TX5
If you need a camera for the great outdoors that can survive under the most harsh situations, Sony says its new Cyber-shot TX5 is just the perfect all-weather camera for you.
This hardy little 10.2-megapixel camera is able to withstand drops from 1.5m in height and operate in temperatures as low as -10°C. It is also waterproof until 3m underwater so you can take it snorkelling with you.
The camera is very compact in size, measuring just 16.7mm thick which Sony claims is the world's slimmest waterproof compact camera.
Equipped with a Carl Zeiss lens, the TX5 is a versatile shooter that can capture images at a wide 25mm angle and zoom up to 4x (100m equivalent).
The TX5 has a 3in touchscreen LCD display that both acts as the viewfinder and control menu for the camera.
Along with a highly sensitive Exmor R CMOS sensor and BIONZ image processor, the TX5 also comes with a variety of added features such as Handheld Twilight, Backlight Correction HDR and smile detection.
Other features include a high burst speed mode for capturing fast movement.
Also available on the TX5 is Intelligent Sweep Panorama, an upgrade of Sony's Sweep Panorama. Users can now take panorama shots with a simple sweep of the camera, either horizontally or vertically.
In terms of video, the TX5 can record 720p HD videos in MP4 or AVI format. The RM1,499 camera accepts both Sony Memory Stick and SD memory cards.
