Insiden kemalangan melibatkan tangga bergerak kerap didengari, namun seringkali dipandang ringan.

Awasi kanak-kanak setiap kali menaiki eskalator.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2166770148280557148.post-92023663166215262232015-08-07T20:39:00.001+08:002015-08-07T20:41:56.979+08:00The Internet-of-Many-Types-of-Things Spells the End of ‘One-For-All’

According to Juniper Research in its latest research report The Internet of Things: Consumer, Industrial & Public Services 2015-2020, the number of devices connected to the Internet will reach 13.4 billion this year, and will continue to rise rapidly to hit 38.5 billion by 2020, which is by the way, the year slated for 5G, 4G’s successor, to be commercially rolled out by Operators.

Honeywell Connected Thermostat

5G is touted as the ultimate technology, at least for now, given the limitations of 4G LTE and 4G LTE-A, despite the super fast speeds they deliver world over. 4G LTE and 4G LTE-A and other variants such as LTE-U and LTE-M are great, and promise mobile experiences never possible before, but rich applications such as mobile gaming, augmented reality and HD video streaming provided on ultra fast fixed broadband connectivity, for example on home computers and gaming consoles - have spoiled a large chunk of the population with quality of experience that has yet to make itself available on cellular devices. For this reason, 5G and the promises it brings, including the popular ‘a 1000 times faster than 4G’ promo-line, is anticipated to close this gap and meet the expectations of today’s experience-hungry subscribers.

But what 5G will really be fuelling in a big way, is the IoT. If 38.5 billion objects are to be connected to the network, surely there will be stiff competition between objects such as a connected camera continuously sending images of an ATM kiosk it is monitoring, with user devices such as a smartphone streaming a 10 minute video clip onto its screen. Data sent and received by billions of IoT objects will be competing with data sent and received by user devices for bandwidth and speed and quality, and Operators will have their hands full, and will be scrambling for means to augment network capacity with various innovative techniques, such as C-RAN, massive MIMO, full duplexing and non-orthogonal multiple access.

If 5G, when it becomes available, can provide all the bandwidth needed to support both streams, then perhaps transitional technologies can be deployed in the interim, provided that no huge outlays of capital infrastructure are necessary during that tenure. That would have been the case if bandwidth is the only concern for IoT deployments, but it is not.

IoT deployments have to take other factors into consideration, namely the type of the end node/sensor, the device functionality, the amount and type of data sent/received, the frequency of communication, the power consumption, ease of access to the node and others. A small home camera, for example, requires Zigbee or Z-Wave to be connected to the home broadband gateway. A camera in the middle of a 200 acre farm however, requires a much longer range connectivity and depends on two-way communication that is necessary to create the ‘trigger’ for it to start transmitting information. At the same time, a camera at the traffic light needs to transmit images continuously, and therefore, needs a much higher bandwidth but is able to operate on a single-way communication.

The differences in how IoT end devices are configured, operate and the functionalities they deliver determine which connectivity works best for an application, giving rise to a shift in the way network operators run their networks. Voice, messaging and data used to move as a pack. When 3G was introduced, voice, messaging and data were all migrated to the new network. With 4G, data made the move first, and circuit-switched voice is now being replaced, albeit slowly, with VoLTE and ViLTE (and mostly, by over-the-top (OTT) apps, but that is beside the point).

Network Operators may be resigning themselves to a similar strategy for IoT, but in this segment, there will not be a one-size-fits-all network solution; rather it will require a 'technology-by-application' approach. Each application will depend on the list of factors discussed above, and the overall IoT service that is being provided.

This owes to the fact that IoT is not just about linking everything to the Internet, it is about creating value through connectivity. An IoT service therefore, has to cover all the processes end-to-end, from sending and receiving information based on pre-set rules, storing all the data, feeding that information into applications on clients’ servers or to the cloud, processing and analyzing it, and finally, providing actionable ‘outputs’ into end-users’ hands.

AT&T Digital Life Tablet Home Screen

An IoT service provider, for example, a communication service provider (CSP), will provide a connected home service as a complete package, and what determines how each home appliance is connected is the Home Area Network technology (examples include Z-Wave, Zigbee, Bluetooth and WiFi) deployed by the CSP and the connectivity option provided by the appliance manufacturers. End-users subscribe to home connectivity services as a bundle, along with the analytics and end-user apps, and in such cases, the decision on which network should be powering the service rests on the ecosystem of appliances and the CSP’s technology partners.

Smart Security by Z-Wave

Z-Wave or Zigbee for example, have been chosen by a large number of providers of connected appliances, for example, ADT and Honeywell to power their products, as well as businesses such as hotels, cruise ships, vacation rentals and in light commercial environments.

For Mobile Network Operators, their IoT portfolios vary greatly from the above. MNOs will be powering IoT services for smart metering, smart cities, telematics, vending machines, even farm animals, and each of these verticals have their own family of Internet-connected end-nodes (trackers, cameras, alarms, thermostats, street lights, traffic monitors etc) scattered over a very large area.

In these cases, MNOs will be looking at technologies such as Sigfox or LoRaWAN. Sigfox and LoRaWAN are key technologies in the Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) segment, ie networks operating in the unlicensed sub-gigahertz spectrum, which enable transmission over longer ranges and which consume minimal power, making them highly suitable for continuous transmission of small data volumes over long periods of time. With a single AA-battery, an end-node can be powered for up to 10 years on both technologies, enabling them to be deployed all over large cities, power plants, hydroelectric dams, ports, remote villages, even wildlife reserves.

With newer players entering the LPWA market, the most recent being Weightless-N and Prorep, IoT service providers and MNOs have a growing pool of options to power their services.

As for LTE, Sequans, a chip vendor based in France, is working on enabling cellular network standards such as LTE Category 1, Category 0 and eventually LTE-M for the IoT market. According to the company, Operators transitioning from 2G to LTE, as in those in the United States, will be looking at these options to move their IoT traffic to. These LTE variants for the IoT however, are expected to start becoming available only next year onwards, and in the meantime, Sigfox is beefing up its expansion across Europe and US (starting with the East Coast) while LoRA is already seeing some early adoption with Senet, a specialty network operator focused on Machine-to-Machine leveraging its technology.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2166770148280557148.post-42366253742333330742015-07-13T15:26:00.002+08:002015-07-13T15:26:47.008+08:00GoPro Hero4 Session; kecil tapi lasak

Around 50 percent of 18-34 year olds see the smartphone screen as their primary screen, certainly over the desktop, and all the data around Internet traffic backs that up. How significant the move is from Google's perspective is interesting, because I think it'll come out in the wash: They're right to make this public, they're absolutely right to do it, but how much impact it has on traffic statistics is to be determined.

It's one of those problems you can't necessarily see, and by doing this, Google is - I suppose - raising awareness of that issue, and it suddenly matters and it matters more to a business.

Well, yes, in this day and age I think it absolutely is. It's so tempting when you look at everything with a design agency on a beautiful, large desktop machine, one of those fabulous large Apple monitors, and you forget that the man or woman in the street who accesses that site on a mobile - maybe over a poor connection on a mobile - isn't experiencing that. Like I say, it's one of those problems that sometimes is hidden, but you're delivering an appalling experience to 50 percent of your audience or more, and Google are probably doing the world a favor. Anyone who hasn't thought this through before, when they see their traffic drop off - and that was traffic they were only ever giving a bad experience - so I think Google are ultimately doing those businesses and organizations a favor.

They guard closely the quality of their search product. They want to deliver the right results to the user, and if that user is on a mobile device, the right result is a site that can be viewed on a mobile device. And in many cases, sites can't be viewed on mobile devices.

How Do You Manage Big Data?

Where everything we do generates information that is stored, processed and analysed rapidly. Creating data so voluminous it has become central to our social interaction, to the way we analyze markets, to how we control traffic, forecast the weather and many other daily operations.

Here are the bare facts. 48 hours of videos are uploaded onto YouTube every minute of every day. In that same time, 204 million emails are sent and there are over 2 million search queries on Google. By the time you read this, the figures would probably all have increased.

The data flow is now so fast, that 2.7 zetabytes of data exist in the digital universe today. That’s 27 with 21 zeroes after it. 90 percent of all the data in the world today has been created in just the last 2 years. Every 2 days, we create as much information as we did from the dawn of civilization up till 2003.

If you find it difficult to wrap your head around the figures, try to imagine how individuals, businesses and even governments are trying to manage this seemingly endless flow of voluminous data.

How do you make sense of it all? Here are 3 solutions to help you manage Big Data.

ICT

The first is Information Communication Technology or ICT. ICT is concerned with the storage, retrieval, manipulation, transmission or receipt of digital data. More importantly, it is concerned with the way these different uses can work with each other.

And that is why the term, Internet of Things or IoT, has become popular in ICT. It describes an advanced connectivity of devices, systems and services that goes beyond machine-to-machine (M2M) communications.

In this aspect, companies like Toshiba are providing planning and consultancy solutions that are platform, business and industry centric. These solutions allow companies to harness the wealth of the data generated, managed and stored.

STORAGE DEVICE

With so much data generated, how do you store it? Depending on your devices, we are talking about flash drives, hard disk and solid state drives (SSD).

And it doesn’t matter who you are; an enterprise, a data centre or an individual, without storage, there is no data.

And that’s why some companies have placed so much emphasis in developing storage hardware. Having been at the forefront of hard disk manufacturing since the 1960s, Toshiba manufactures high quality and high capacity data storage devices. In recent years, the focus has shifted to miniaturization, larger capacities and faster processing speeds to keep up with the exponential volume of data being generated.

DATA CENTRE

So where would you house all these storage devices? That would be your data centre. While some companies choose to house their data centres on their own premises, there is an increasing trend of outsourcing the responsibility to a third party.

If there is a need to inject more flexibility, Toshiba has created the modular data centre which provides a quick and easy way of expanding based on usage needs. Toshiba’s technology not only shortens the lead time to set up, it also reduces the start-up cost of growing a company’s data storage.

As business grows, adding a new data centre is as easy as adding another module. And you can choose if you would prefer to install it on your premises or at an external location provided by a third party.

As your data storage needs grow, high-density server arrangements may be difficult to sustain as some infrastructure do not have the air-conditioning or power source to support it. Without the correct environment, unexpected breakdowns could occur and cause severe disruptions. But Toshiba’s modular data centres are built with these conditions in mind. With innovative hybrid technology that channels cool and warm air efficiently through separate aisles in the design, this allows adequate cooling while saving energy from having to cool every part of the data centre.

So do we have the means to manage this avalanche of data being generated on a daily basis?

The answer may lie in the know-how derived from a wide range of technologies and services. At Toshiba, they call this concept ‘lifenology’. Coined from the words ‘life’ and ‘technology’, it is a product philosophy that guides Toshiba in creating a suite of technologies, products and services designed to add value to life.

In the era of IoT, Toshiba has the capabilities in embedded device manufacturing, connectivity infrastructure and application deployments to meet your Big Data needs. Continually enriching lives by improving the way information is stored and managed.

You can't fiddle with pricing for just a few people, for instance. All that could change very shortly in the Android world, however. Sources for The Information claim that Google is introducing a feature that lets Android developers try different versions of the same Google Play Store page. You could not only see different previews of the app, but different pricing -- the creator could charge you $2 for that hot new game, but ask $3 from others to see if they'll accept higher pricing.

The move could be slightly frustrating if you realize that you just paid more than someone else for the same title, but it could go a long way toward encouraging Android developers to stay aboard. They'd find out if they're charging a fair price, and whether or not their marketing is effective in a given country. Google hasn't confirmed that it's going this route, but you may discover the truth soon enough given that the search firm is reportedly announcing the feature at its I/O conference later this month.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2166770148280557148.post-20736052056011415322015-05-05T12:12:00.001+08:002015-05-05T12:12:52.033+08:00Kerja Kosong PETRONAS MALAYSIA 2015 | PFLNG 1

KERJA KOSONG MEI 2015 – PETRONAS

Jawatan : Pelbagai Jawatan

Tarikh Tutup : 31 Mei 2015

Build Your Career with PETRONAS.
Petronas are looking for self driven, committed and competent individuals to join them in their first Floating Liquefied Natural Gas Facility, which is set to revolutionise the landscapeof the LNG industry. The car is not only able to drive on roads autonomously with a push of a button (thus without a driver, passenger or further assistance), but can also transform into an amphibious vehicle which can be submerged in water up to 10 meters (33 feet). An electric motor with powerful torque drives the rear wheels, while the propulsion on the water is ensured by two propellers in the stern and two powerful jet drives in the bow propelling the vehicle under water while diving.

When underwater, the driver and passenger are enclosed in the vehicle thanks to light weight body components made of futuristic Carbon Nano Tubes and are supplied with fresh breathing air by the self-contained on-board system.
7-Eleven Malaysia Holdings Berhad yesterday apologised to all consumers affected by the Goods and Services Tax (GST) pricing error for selected items sold at its stores earlier yesterday.

Its general manager (marketing) Ronan Lee said the pricing error occurred due to a technical system error in its point-of-sale system.

"This particularly impacted on some newspaper products which we sell as these incurred a minor increase on the correct price which should not have been charged as newspapers do not attract any GST," he added in a statement yesterday.

Lee said as soon as the system error was discovered, they immediately took action to withdraw these products from sale so that their customers would not be inconvenienced further.

"However, we understand that the incident would have caused frustration for our customers and for that we sincerely apologise," he said to media, adding that the system errors were being corrected and the revised pricing will be implemented as soon as possible.

He said 7-Eleven will not sell affected items until the system errors have been fully corrected.
For anyone who was impacted yesterday, the company requests them to contact it by using private message via 7-Elevan Malaysia's official Facebook page or email to marketing@7eleven.com.my with contact details.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2166770148280557148.post-61288345416661526422015-03-20T09:08:00.000+08:002015-03-20T09:08:00.285+08:00Hyundai Tucson now CKD, priced lower from RM116k

Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) has rolled-out the locally-assembled (CKD) version of the Hyundai Tucson. Now coming out of Inokom’s plant in Kulim, the C-segment SUV models are priced 10% lower than the CBU (Korea) models. The Tucson range now starts at RM116,677.60 for the Nu 2.0 Elegance, up to RM133,677.60 for the Nu 2.0 Sport (OTR without insurance).

Only the two variants remain, while the previous 2.0 Executive Plus and 2.4 Executive Plus models have effectively been dropped. Specs of the two CKD offerings are largely unchanged compared to their equivalent CBU models, plus the addition of LED daytime running lights and leather upholstery across the range.

Based on the spec sheet released (below), the only thing that is omitted is a leather-wrapped steering wheel previously fitted to the 2.0 Elegance, which is now replaced with a “soft PVC” unit. Otherwise, you still get 17-inch wheels, front and rear foglamps, steering wheel audio controls and auto lights as standard.

The Sport adds on chrome door handles, all-around bodykit, front parking sensors, panoramic sunroof, keyless entry and start and a touchscreen head unit with navigation and front and rear parking cameras. Six airbags (as opposed to two on the Elegance), ESP, Vehicle Stability Management, Downhill Brake Control and Hill-start Assist are only available on the Sport too.

Under the hood, there’s the same Nu 2.0 litre engine. The MPI motor makes 158 PS at 6,200 rpm and 192 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. As before, Hyundai’s own six-speed automatic transmission transfers power to the front wheels. Previously, only the 2.4 litre Tucson variant had an all-wheel drive drivetrain.

Standard colours available are Pure White, Titanium Grey, Hyper Metallic and Pepper Grey, while Remington Red, Phantom Black, Sleek Silver and Platinum Silver options are offered on the Sport variant. HSDM provides a five-year/300,000 km warranty on the CKD Hyundai Tucson.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2166770148280557148.post-45934638697788279152015-03-18T10:27:00.000+08:002015-03-18T10:27:00.318+08:00Kereta Terbang AeroMobil 3.0An advanced prototype of the flying roadster AeroMobil 3.0 was unveiled in Vienna during the Pioneers Festival that celebrates entrepreneurship, technology and innovation.
Your mobile could soon have more storage space than your laptop. That's because SanDisk has just unveiled the world's biggest microSD card – it packs a whopping 200GB! That alone is bigger than some laptops. Add in a smartphone with 128GB, and you've got a mammoth 328GB to play with.

Its full name is the 200GB SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I card, Premium Edition. Phew.

Despite its huge storage size, it's no bigger than a regular microSD card. Which is a good job, as otherwise it wouldn't fit in the slot.

Last year, SanDisk broke the record with a 128GB microSD card.

Not only does this mean mobiles edge ahead of most other portable devices, it also means we're leaving the current age of storage. We've been hovering around the 64GB mark for years, but now smartphones are packing upwards of 100GB, and the storage media is catching up, we could see our phones become our primary place to store all our stuff. Exciting times.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2166770148280557148.post-10532112950048380922015-03-10T13:36:00.003+08:002015-03-10T13:36:29.809+08:00Video Misteri Sains Tentang Pergerakkan Tak Berpenghujung - Perpetual Motion

Google announced that it was closing down its Explorer program for Google Glass -- a scheme that let any US or UK consumer pay US$1500 for a pre-launch version of the headset -- on Jan 15. Two weeks later the company's CFO said that the project needed to be put on pause and the device's use and direction rethought.

No high-tech device in recent history has been so polarizing. The term 'Glasshole' was coined to describe users, regulators moved to ban its use while driving, and cinemas, bars, and diners started barring entry to wearers.

Apple's head of design, Jony Ive revealed that he didn't think much of Google Glass as part of a New Yorker profile published this week and, according to the piece, neither did his boss. Tim Cook is quoted as saying: "We always thought that glasses were not a smart move....They were intrusive...." He went on, looking at the Apple Watch on his wrist, "This isn't building a barrier between you and me."

However, in the realm of business, enterprises started to become more and more taken by its enterprise capabilities. Google set up the Glass at Work program and companies specializing in everything from healthcare to car building started developing very specific apps for the device.

And, according to 9to5 Google, it's these Glass at Work partners that have just received a next-generation version of Google Glass and are now busy putting it through its paces.

The publication's sources claim that there are several different prototype versions and that they have been circulating since October.

And, a possible consumer version isn't dead, yet. Tony Fadell, founder of Nest and one of the team that bought the iPod and the iPhone to life during his time at Apple, has been tasked with making the device into something that looks desirable as well as useful.

Meanwhile other companies have started launching their own smart headsets.

Lenovo and Samsung are both understood to have smart headsets in development, while Epson's Moverio BT-200 headset and Vuzix's M100 Smart Glasses have both been on the market for over a year. And the latest company to move into the smart headset market is Sony. Its SmartEyeGlass headset starts shipping in March for US$840Unknownnoreply@blogger.com
